About POGO's Federal Contractor Misconduct Database (FCMD)
The government awards contracts to companies with histories of misconduct such as contract fraud and environmental, ethics, and labor violations. In the absence of a centralized federal database listing instances of misconduct, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is providing such data. We believe that it will lead to improved contracting decisions and public access to information about how the government spends hundreds of billions of taxpayer money each year on goods and services. Synopsis: A federal lawsuit claims that KBR and its Jordan-based subcontractor, Daoud & Partners, were involved in a human trafficking plan that forced Nepali men to work against their will in Iraq in 2004. According to the lawsuit, about 70 men between the ages of 18 and 27 were recruited in Nepal and told they would be doing work in hotel and restaurant kitchens in Amman, Jordan. However, when they arrived in Jordan, their passports were seized and they were sent to Iraq to work at the U.S. Al Asad air base. The lawsuit claims violations of the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act, the Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), and the Alien Tort Claims Act.
