The government awards contracts to companies with histories of misconduct such as contract fraud and environmental, ethics, and labor violations. In the absence of a centralized federal database listing instances of misconduct, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is providing such data. We believe that it will lead to improved contracting decisions and public access to information about how the government spends hundreds of billions of taxpayer money each year on goods and services. Synopsis: Thomas Burchfiel was working in Boeing's manufacturing plant in Spokane, Wash. when it was sold to another company in 2002. At that time, he was told that his job was being eliminated but would be given a chance to reapply. When he was not rehired, he sued Boeing, claiming discrimination based on his medical condition and retaliation. A jury agreed with his claims and awarded him $1 million. The trial judge subsequently vacated the verdict, but the verdict was reinstated on appeal.
