The government awards contracts to companies with histories of misconduct such as contract fraud and environmental, ethics, and labor violations. In the absence of a centralized federal database listing instances of misconduct, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is providing such data. We believe that it will lead to improved contracting decisions and public access to information about how the government spends hundreds of billions of taxpayer money each year on goods and services. Synopsis: Keith Barnwell, on behalf of all corrections officers employed by Corrections Corporation of America (CCA), sued CCA under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) alleging that CCA did not pay employees for work they performed before or after their scheduled shifts. In February 2009, the parties settled. CCA did not admit any liability or wrongdoing and agreed to pay $7 million in back pay to more than 30,000 employees.
