About POGO's Federal Contractor Misconduct Database (FCMD)
The government awards contracts to companies with histories of misconduct such as contract fraud and environmental, ethics, and labor violations. In the absence of a centralized federal database listing instances of misconduct, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is providing such data. We believe that it will lead to improved contracting decisions and public access to information about how the government spends hundreds of billions of taxpayer money each year on goods and services. Court Type: Civil

Synopsis: A group of approximately 20 BP gas station and convenience store operators in New Jersey filed a lawsuit alleging BP reneged on its lease agreements with the operators. The operators filed suit in 2006 after BP tried to end their current contracts and introduce "lease and supply" agreements that would have increased station rents. The case was later dismissed after BP agreed to continue with the operating agreements, but the operators now allege that BP had said it would not renew the deals and wanted to exit the agreements. In addition, they allege the company offered to sell the stations to the operators at inflated prices that far exceed market value. The dealers accuse BP of fraud, unjust enrichment and violating New Jersey's franchise law.
