About POGO's Federal Contractor Misconduct Database (FCMD)
The government awards contracts to companies with histories of misconduct such as contract fraud and environmental, ethics, and labor violations. In the absence of a centralized federal database listing instances of misconduct, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is providing such data. We believe that it will lead to improved contracting decisions and public access to information about how the government spends hundreds of billions of taxpayer money each year on goods and services. Contracting Party: None
Court Type: Civil
Amount: $0

Synopsis: Natalie Roshto filed a negligence lawsuit over the April 20, 2010 incident on the Deepwater Horizon offshore oil drilling rig, which exploded and sank in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Louisiana. Roshto, whose husband was working on the rig at the time, alleges that Transocean, the owner of the rig and employer of Roshto’s husband, and BP, which was using the rig, violated numerous U.S. Minerals Management Service (MMS) and U.S. Coast Guard regulations by failing to provide a competent crew, failing to properly supervise its employees and failing to provide a safe workplace. The lawsuit also claims that, prior to the explosion, Halliburton “was engaged in cementing operations of the well and well cap and, upon information and belief, improperly and negligently performed these duties, which was a cause of the explosion.”
