In the absence of a centralized federal database listing instances of misconduct, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is providing such data. We believe that it will lead to improved contracting decisions and public access to information about how the government spends hundreds of billions of taxpayer money each year on goods and services. Synopsis: Under two separate settlements with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Shell Chemical L.P. and Shell Chemical Yabucoa, Inc., agreed to pay $3.5 million in penalties and spend an estimated $6 million to install pollution-reduction equipments at refineries in Louisiana, Alabama and Puerto Rico. The EPA alleged violations of Clean Air Act requirements covering emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, volatile organic emissions and benzene at each of the facilities.
