In the absence of a centralized federal database listing instances of misconduct, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is providing such data. We believe that it will lead to improved contracting decisions and public access to information about how the government spends hundreds of billions of taxpayer money each year on goods and services. Synopsis: U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reached an agreement with BP Products North America Inc. over alleged Clean Air Act violations at the company's petroleum refinery in Whiting, Indiana, with BP agreeing to pay almost $60,000. EPA alleged that BP discharged more than twice as much lead and cadmium from its hazardous waste incinerator during a test in March 2004 than is allowed by the Clean Air Act.
