In the absence of a centralized federal database listing instances of misconduct, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is providing such data. Synopsis: Tennessee businessman John Faris filed suit to recover damages caused by the April 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion and oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Faris claims the incident has caused damage to the value of Gulf-front properties he owns. He seeks to act as class representative for all Tennessee resident property owners whose Gulf-front properties or properties near the Gulf have lost value because of the alleged negligence of several companies, including BP. Faris seeks compensatory damages in excess of $5 million and punitive damages.
