The government awards contracts to companies with histories of misconduct such as contract fraud and environmental, ethics, and labor violations. In the absence of a centralized federal database listing instances of misconduct, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is providing such data. We believe that it will lead to improved contracting decisions and public access to information about how the government spends hundreds of billions of taxpayer money each year on goods and services. Synopsis: Wackenhut Services, Inc. (WSI) agreed to pay the United States $650,000 to resolve False Claims Act allegations involving its contracts to provide security services at the Savannah River Site and other facilities. The government alleged that, from 2001 through 2005, WSI submitted to the Department of Energy hundreds of thousands of dollars in unallowable expenses for such things as a charter boat cruise, a Polynesian drum show, and alcohol for WSI employees.
