About POGO's Federal Contractor Misconduct Database (FCMD)
The government awards contracts to companies with histories of misconduct such as contract fraud and environmental, ethics, and labor violations. In the absence of a centralized federal database listing instances of misconduct, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is providing such data. We believe that it will lead to improved contracting decisions and public access to information about how the government spends hundreds of billions of taxpayer money each year on goods and services. Synopsis: Residents of Tallevast, Florida claim they developed health problems as a result of exposure to chemicals produced at a plant once owned by Lockheed Martin. Lockheed acquired the former American Beryllium Company (ABC) machine and metalworking plant when it purchased Loral Metals Technology in 1996. Prior to Lockheed’s sale of the property in 2000, an environmental assessment discovered the presence of volatile organic compounds in groundwater at the site. Plaintiffs claim Lockheed failed to timely warn residents of the presence of these chemicals. In September 2010, more than 270 Tallevast residents settled with Lockheed for undisclosed amount.
