The government awards contracts to companies with histories of misconduct such as contract fraud and environmental, ethics, and labor violations. In the absence of a centralized federal database listing instances of misconduct, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is providing such data. We believe that it will lead to improved contracting decisions and public access to information about how the government spends hundreds of billions of taxpayer money each year on goods and services. Synopsis: The Arizona Department of Insurance fined Health Net for a series of health insurance law violations in 2007 and 2008 involving health care appeals, claims handling and health care provider grievances. The state ordered Health Net of Arizona, Inc., and Health Net Life Insurance Company to pay civil penalties of $83,500 and $153,000, respectively, and to take immediate action to correct health care appeals and claims handling violations and healthcare provider grievances.
