About POGO's Federal Contractor Misconduct Database (FCMD)
The government awards contracts to companies with histories of misconduct such as contract fraud and environmental, ethics, and labor violations. In the absence of a centralized federal database listing instances of misconduct, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is providing such data. We believe that it will lead to improved contracting decisions and public access to information about how the government spends hundreds of billions of taxpayer money each year on goods and services. Synopsis: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) temporarily suspended BP Exploration and Production, Inc., BP P.L.C., and affiliated companies from new contracts with the federal government. EPA took this action due to BP’s lack of business integrity as demonstrated by the company's conduct with regard to the Deepwater Horizon blowout, explosion, oil spill, and response, which resulted in the filing of a criminal information and BP’s pleading guilty to eleven counts of misconduct or neglect of ship officers, one count of obstruction of Congress, one misdemeanor count of a violation of the Clean Water Act, and one misdemeanor count of a violation of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (see BP P.L.C. instance, “April 2010 Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill – Federal Criminal Settlement”).
