The government awards contracts to companies with histories of misconduct such as contract fraud and environmental, ethics, and labor violations. In the absence of a centralized federal database listing instances of misconduct, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is providing such data. We believe that it will lead to improved contracting decisions and public access to information about how the government spends hundreds of billions of taxpayer money each year on goods and services. Synopsis: On August 18. 2005, the Will County State’s Attorney’s office in Illinois announced that local environmental projects would receive $110,000 “as part of a settlement agreement reached with ExxonMobil regarding alleged air pollution violations at the oil company’s refinery located southwest of Joliet, in Channahon Township…In addition, ExxonMobil will pay $150,000 to the Illinois Environmental Protection Trust Fund and $21,846 to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) for costs incurred during the investigation and clean-up.”
