In the absence of a centralized federal database listing instances of misconduct, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is providing such data. We believe that it will lead to improved contracting decisions and public access to information about how the government spends hundreds of billions of taxpayer money each year on goods and services. Synopsis: On November 22, 2002, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality issued a Notice of Potential Penalty for safety violations which led to the unauthorized release of several hazardous chemicals. Without admitting liability, Exxon agreed to pay $350,000, $250,000 of which will go to performing beneficial environmental projects.
