In the absence of a centralized federal database listing instances of misconduct, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is providing such data. We believe that it will lead to improved contracting decisions and public access to information about how the government spends hundreds of billions of taxpayer money each year on goods and services. Synopsis: On June 3, 1997, the California Air Resources Board announced a $1.3 million settlement with General Motors Corporation (GM) for potential violations of California motor vehicle emission standards…According to ARB data, at least 18 tons of added carbon monoxide were emitted each day from Cadillacs built between 1991 through 1995 equipped with 4.9 liter engines. As a result of ARB analysis in this investigation, General Motors has subjected about 45,000 Cadillacs built between 1991 and 1993 to a California recall program.”
