The government awards contracts to companies with histories of misconduct such as contract fraud and environmental, ethics, and labor violations. In the absence of a centralized federal database listing instances of misconduct, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is providing such data. We believe that it will lead to improved contracting decisions and public access to information about how the government spends hundreds of billions of taxpayer money each year on goods and services. Synopsis: "On August 21, 2002, Valero advised that three DAL batch reports submitted between August 17 and August 20, 2002, had incorrect aromatics values because of a laboratory software error. A settlement conference was held [with the California Environmental Protection Agency] on February 4, 2003, and the case has since been settled in principle for $10,000."
