The government awards contracts to companies with histories of misconduct such as contract fraud and environmental, ethics, and labor violations. In the absence of a centralized federal database listing instances of misconduct, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is providing such data. We believe that it will lead to improved contracting decisions and public access to information about how the government spends hundreds of billions of taxpayer money each year on goods and services. Synopsis: A class action lawsuit filed against GlaxoSmithKline in Madison County, Illinois claimed GSK withheld negative information about the safety and effectiveness of its anti-depression drug Paxil. A settlement was reached in October 2006 and was approved by the court the following April. Under the settlement, GSK, which did not admit any wrongdoing, was required to establish a fund of $63.8 million to compensate all U.S. consumers who bought Paxil or Paxil CR for a person under the age of 18.
