In March 2005, the U.S. Department of Energy selected CH2M-WG Idaho, LLC to lead the $2.9 billion environmental cleanup of the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) site in Eastern Idaho. CH2M-WG Idaho, LLC is a joint venture between CH2M Hill and Washington Group International. Washington Group International, in turn, is part of the Battelle Energy Alliance, which operates and manages the INL. The Idaho Cleanup Project (ICP), will be a seven-year undertaking to safely clean up the 890-square-mile site. Responsibilities include treatment and disposal of radioactive waste streams, management of spent nuclear fuel, disposal and disposition of nuclear materials, demolition of reactor and non-reactor nuclear facilities, and environmental remediation activities funded through DOE’s Office of Environmental Management.
