Bechtel Bettis, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bechtel Corporation, operated and managed the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, a Department of Energy facility that designs and develops nuclear power propulsion systems for the U.S. Navy. There are three primary Bettis sites: a main site in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania; a nuclear Navy training facility in Charleston, South Carolina; and the Naval Reactors Facility in Idaho Falls, Idaho. In 2008, the contract to operate both the Bettis and Knolls Atomic Power Laboratories was awarded to Bechtel subsidiary Bechtel Marine Propulsion Corporation (BMPC).
