World Airways was an American airline that provided non-scheduled passenger and cargo services. World Airways became a key military contractor during the Vietnam War, flying troops and equipment between Vietnam and the company’s base at Oakland International Airport. The company subsequently received a substantial amount of its business from the military, connecting American bases in the U.S. to the Middle East. It also performed passenger and freight service under contract with private organizations. World Airways filed for bankruptcy protection in November 2013 and ceased all operations in March 2014.
