UT-Battelle is a nonprofit partnership between the University of Tennessee and Battelle that manages and operates the Oak Ridge National Laboratory for the U.S. Department of Energy. UT-Battelle assumed management of ORNL in April 2000. In December of 2004, the company received the Department of Energy’s highest rating for its management performance, and the DOE announced it would renew the contract for an additional 5 years.
