Carson v. McDonnell Douglas Helicopter (Negligence)
Lonnie Carson, a former county sheriff’s office pilot who was injured in a helicopter crash in 1999, filed a negligence lawsuit against McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Co. and other companies involved in the construction and/or maintenance of the helicopter. A 2001 report issued by the National Transportation Safety Board found that the crash was caused by an improperly-maintained helicopter part for which the NTSB did not blame any one company. The case was settled in November 2003 for an undisclosed amount.
