April 2010 Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill Shareholder Lawsuit

BP shareholder Katherine Firpo filed a lawsuit on behalf of all BP shareholders against the company’s board of directors over the April 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill. The lawsuit claims BP’s chief executive officer and other directors failed to improve safety practices as promised by a settlement in an earlier shareholder lawsuit. The lawsuit seeks unspecified monetary damages and asks that shareholders appoint three new directors and that BP create an independent board to monitor the company’s environmental and litigation exposure.
