Omniscan Litigation
Hundreds of federal and state lawsuits have been filed against General Electric by people suffering from nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF), a disease that causes a painful hardening of skin around joints and affects internal organs. They allege that GE’s imaging drug Omniscan (also known as Gadodiamide), which is injected into patients to make it easier to read MRI scans, caused them to contract NSF. GE has reportedly settled many of the lawsuits out of court pursuant to undisclosed terms.
