Argos v. Maersk (Breach of Contract)
British retailer Argos sued Maersk in the British High Court seeking damages of $13.9 million for allegedly breaching a contract to transport 10,000 40-foot containers from the Far East to Britain in 2010 and 2011. Argos claimed Maersk wrongfully repudiated and/or renounced the contract when Maersk announced in January 2010 that it could no longer guarantee space for the containers at the agreed price and that Argos would need to increase the payment from $930 to $2,730 dollars per container. In November 2010, it was reported that Maersk and Argos reached a confidential, out-of-court settlement.
