Explosion at Bacton Gas Terminal

Shell UK Ltd. was ordered by a British court to pay a total of £1,242,000 (approx. US$2 million) in fines and costs for the explosion and fire at its Bacton gas terminal in Norfolk, UK, in 2008. Shell also pleaded guilty to seven charges involving safety, environmental control, and pollution prevention failures at the plant which led to the explosion.
