April 2010 Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill (Halliburton Lawsuit)

Halliburton Energy Services, Inc. (HESI) filed claims against BP in state and federal court alleging fraud, negligence and defamation stemming from HESI’s work on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig and Macondo well in the Gulf of Mexico. On April 20, 2010, there was a blowout and explosion during efforts to temporarily abandon the well. HESI claims that BP, as sole operator of the well, provided HESI with inaccurate information about the location of oil and gas producing zones, which HESI relied on in formulating the cementing plan for the well. In May 2015, it was reported that Halliburton and BP reached a confidential settlement of all claims.
