Losack v. SAIC (Stolen TRICARE Records)
A class-action lawsuit was filed against SAIC on behalf of TRICARE beneficiaries in California whose personally identifiable information and/or private health information was compromised as a result of a theft of computer tapes from a SAIC employee’s car in September 2011. On September 14, 2011, SAIC reported a data breach involving the personally identifiable and protected health information of 4.9 million TRICARE beneficiaries (current and retired servicemen and women and their family members) treated in the San Antonio, Texas area since 1992. SAIC claimed that backup computer tapes containing the data were stolen from an employee’s car while the employee was transporting them between federal facilities.
