Fraudulent Overbilling in the Renovation of Logan Airport
URS Corporation paid $3.3 million ($2.3 million, plus $1 million paid prior to litigation) to resolve allegations that it submitted false and inflated invoices to the Massachusetts Port Authority (“Massport”) during the renovation of Logan International Airport. Massport and the Massachusetts Attorney General alleged that URS’s project manager defrauded Massport by submitting hundreds of false and inflated invoices resulting in an overpayment of more than $1.3 million. The project manager pleaded guilty in April 2010 to larceny and procurement fraud and was sentenced to four to five years in prison (see URS Corporation instance “Commonwealth v. Papadopoulos (Fraudulent Overbilling)”.)
