Drilling Technology Patent Infringement
Transocean Offshore Deepwater Drilling alleged that Maersk Contractors USA infringed Transocean’s patents for an offshore drilling system. A jury found in favor of Transocean and awarded $15 million in compensatory damages. The court, however, granted Maersk’s motions for judgment as a matter of law and threw out the verdict. In November 2012, an appellate court reinstated the verdict.
