“Grandfathered” Wireless Data Plan Subscriber Excess Charges
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) alleged that, beginning in November 2009, AT&T switched “grandfathered subscriber” customers to its mandatory monthly wireless data plans despite promising them they could retain their existing pay-as-you-go plans. Under a consent decree, AT&T agreed to pay the government $700,000 and refund the excess charges paid by customers.
