Controlled Substances Act Violations
Express Scripts, Inc. and Express Scripts Pharmacy Services, Inc. paid $2.75 million to settle alleged violations of the Controlled Substances Act by failing to have practices in place to prevent the theft of controlled substances at several facilities around the country. The Department of Justice alleged that between 2002 and 2009, Express Scripts experienced employee theft of controlled substances, had discrepancies in its inventories, failed to report in-transit losses to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and used invalid DEA numbers to fill some prescriptions at its mail order facilities.
