Frank v. United Airlines (Gender Discrimination)

In February 2004, United Airlines settled a class action lawsuit filed by female flight attendants who challenged the company’s weight requirement policy. From 1980 to 1994, United required flight attendants to comply with maximum weight requirements based on sex, height, and age. The policy required female flight attendants to weigh between 14 and 25 pounds less than their male colleagues of the same height and age. The plaintiffs alleged the policy discriminated against women and older flight attendants in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the California Fair Employment and Housing Act.
