Hazardous Waste Violations at San Francisco Maintenance Facility

United Airlines paid the Department of Justice, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the State of California $850,000 to settle hazardous waste violations at its San Francisco International Airport aircraft maintenance facility. During inspections in 1999 and 2001, the EPA found widespread violations, including failure to close hazardous waste containers, improper labeling of hazardous waste containers, and storage of hazardous waste for longer than the allowable limits.
