Medicare Hospice False Claims

A False Claims Act lawsuit alleged that UnitedHealth Group subsidiary Evercare Hospice and Palliative Care (n/k/a Optum Palliative and Hospice Care) submitted false claims for the Medicare hospice benefit. Former Evercare employees Terry Lee Fowler and Lyssa Towl alleged the company submitted claims for hospice benefits for patients who were not terminally ill or were otherwise ineligible. In July 2016, Evercare settled the lawsuit for $18 million.
