Nigeria Charter Service Settlement
Customers who purchased tickets for World Airways flights from the United States to Nigeria and were not transported to their destinations on schedule filed a class action lawsuit. The action stemmed from World Airways’ decision in December 2003 to cease flight operations to Nigeria, which left some customers stranded in Lagos, Nigeria for several weeks. The lawsuit alleged violations of U.S. laws governing air transportation and the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Statute (RICO). In 2008, World Airways settled the lawsuit for $5.7 million.
