East Yorkshire Employee Death
BAE Operations Limited employee Gary Whiting died at BAE’s plant in East Yorkshire, UK in November 2008 when a co-worker switched on a metal press while Whiting was inside the machine. At Hull Crown Court in April 2012, BAE admitted it failed to take all reasonable and practical safety steps that would have prevented the accident. In May 2013, BAE was ordered to pay £347,000 (US$526,000) in fines and costs after pleading guilty to a breach of Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act l974.
