SolidFX v. Jeppesen Sanderson (Breach of Contract, Fraud)
SolidFX alleged that Boeing subsidiary Jeppesen Sanderson breached a contract with SolidFX to develop software allowing airplane pilots to access Jeppesen terminal charts (often referred to by pilots as “Jepp charts,” or “Jepps”) on e-book viewers or tablets. SolidFX claimed that Jeppesen breached the agreement in 2010 by refusing to grant SolidFX a license to use Jeppesen’s propriety technology so that SolidFX could develop an app for the iPad. SolidFX claimed that Jeppesen stalled SolidFX while Jeppesen secretly developed its own iPad app. In April 2014, a jury ordered Jeppesen to pay SolidFX $43.1 million in damages. SolidFX was also awarded $622,000 in pre-judgment interest and costs.
