State of California ex rel. Schroen v. BP America Production Co. (Natural Gas Charging False Claims)
The State of California filed a lawsuit alleging BP overcharged the state millions of dollars from 2003 to 2011 on contracts to supply natural gas. The state alleged BP failed to buy gas for the state at competitive prices and then knowingly sold it at inflated prices. In January 2018, BP agreed to pay $102 million to settle the lawsuit.
