Settlement of Hanford Asbestos Violations
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) fined CH2M Hill Plateau Remediation Company $131,594 and Washington Closure Hanford (a limited liability company owned by URS, Bechtel and CH2M Hill) $44,000 to settle alleged violations of federal asbestos handling regulations at the Hanford Site discovered during an August 2012 inspection. The EPA claimed that the companies demolished structures and buildings at the site without first removing asbestos, provided incomplete or inaccurate information to the EPA and local environmental authorities, and improperly stored asbestos waste.
