Clean Air Act Violations at Perth Amboy Asphalt Refinery
Chevron paid a $463,750 civil penalty to settle claims by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the State of New Jersey relating to alleged violations of the Clean Air Act pertaining to leak detection and repair (LDAR) for hazardous air pollutants at an asphalt petroleum refinery owned and operated by Chevron in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. In addition to the civil penalty, Chevron agreed to implement an enhanced LDAR program at the refinery, which has not refined asphalt since 2008.
