Scovil et al. v. FedEx (Misclassifying Workers)
FedEx Ground Package System pickup and delivery drivers in Maine alleged the company wrongly classified them as independent contractors rather than employees, resulting in violations of state and federal wage and hour laws. Specifically, the drivers alleged that because they were classified as independent contractors, the company did not pay required overtime, took improper deductions out of their paychecks, and required drivers to pay their own expenses. In November 2013, FedEx settled the lawsuit for $5.8 million.
