Venegas Morga v. FedEx (Wrongful Death)
A New Mexico state court jury awarded the family of Mariali Venegas Morga more than $165 million in a wrongful death lawsuit involving a June 2011 incident in which a FedEx truck crashed into Venegas Morga’s vehicle on I-10 outside Las Cruces, killing her and her daughter. Venegas Morga had allegedly pulled over to the side of the road with her hazard lights on when the FedEx truck crashed into her at 65 miles an hour. The lawsuit alleged that the FedEx driver fell asleep behind the wheel and was not adequately trained. The jury awarded $165.5 million in damages and found FedEx and two of its contractors 95 percent responsible.
