Scull v. The Wackenhut Corporation (Whistleblower Retaliation)
Robert Scull, a former security manager at Wackenhut, alleged he was fired because he blew the whistle on safety issues at the Salem-Hope Creek nuclear facility in New Jersey. Scull was concerned that he had too few assistants to properly supervise his shift, and, as a result, certain posts were left unmanned at times. Scull also complained that the company’s procedures for documenting weapons in the facility’s armory were lax and often diverted him from his job of overseeing security in order to track down missing weapons. In June 2013, a federal jury found in Scull’s favor and awarded him $400,000 in damages.
