Australia Fine for Misleading Consumers and Retailers
Hewlett-Packard Australia was ordered to pay a AUS$3 million (US$2.7 million) civil penalty in a case brought by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) accusing the company of making false or misleading representations about consumer guarantee rights, including the terms of repairs, product returns and warranties, in 2011 and 2012. The representations were made by HP staff working at call centers located around the world.
