Improper Firing of a Contractor Employee
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Honeywell International a confirmatory order requiring new training, communications, policies, and guidance following an incident in which Bluestone LLC, a contractor at Honeywell’s Metropolis, Illinois facility, terminated an employee, allegedly because the employee notified Honeywell and Bluestone of a safety concern. As part of the agreement, the NRC refrained from issuing a Notice of Violation or proposing a civil penalty, and Honeywell neither admitted nor denied that a violation occurred. Some of the terms in the order also apply to two other Honeywell facilities.
