Environmental Contamination in Endicott, New York
In 2015, IBM settled a lawsuit alleging that toxic chemical leakage from the company’s former Endicott, New York computer manufacturing plant caused illnesses and deaths, damaged property values, and hurt businesses. From 1924 through 2002, IBM used TCE (trichloroethylene) and other toxic chemicals at the plant. In 1979, TCE was discovered in groundwater beneath the plant. Varying levels of TCE were also found in a 300-plus acre plume of Endicott’s soil and groundwater.
