Vioxx Missouri Consumer Fraud Settlement

Merck settled a class-action lawsuit filed on behalf of Missouri consumers of Merck’s Vioxx pain medication. The lawsuit alleged that Merck violated the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act by concealing and/or downplaying the cardiovascular risks of Vioxx. Pursuant to the settlement agreement, Merck made an initial payment of $39 million. It was reported that the settlement could ultimately cost Merck up to $220 million.
