Smith v. Merck (Gender Discrimination)
Kelli Smith filed a class-action lawsuit alleging systemic discriminatory treatment of female employees at Merck. The lawsuit alleged that Merck discriminated against its female employees generally, and its pregnant employees and female employees with children specifically, through discriminatory policies, practices, and procedures in selection, promotion, and advancement; disparate pay; differential treatment; a hostile work environment; and retaliation. In December 2018, Merck agreed to settle the lawsuit for $6.2 million.
