Illegal Marketing Shareholder Class Action Lawsuit
Pfizer paid $400 million to settle a class-action lawsuit accusing the company of misleading investors regarding its off-label marketing practices between 2006 and 2009. The lawsuit alleged that Pfizer made false statements to shareholders about the off-label marketing of its products—including Bextra, Geodon, Zyvox, and Lyrica—and about government investigations of those practices that led to a $2.3 billion settlement in 2009 (see Pfizer instance, “Illegal Marketing of Bextra and Other Drugs”) and a drop in the price of Pfizer stock.
